History:
Becky and David Lockman began
Camp Summer Spree at their home on ten acres in Watkinsville, Georgia,
in June 2003. This unique camp is free to participants, providing
a summer recreational and learning experience to under-served youth
of the Athens/Clarke area. Because of circumstances beyond their
control, these youth would not otherwise have the opportunity to participate
in a traditional camp atmosphere. It is the purpose of Camp Summer
Spree to offer such an experience.
Mission Statement:
Camp Summer Spree brings community
members together to make a positive difference in children’s lives.
We provide a fun, nurturing and educational environment, where kids
who need an extra measure of support are guided and encouraged to realize
their full potential and individual value.
Philosophy:
The philosophy of Camp Summer
Spree can be described in the words of Mahatma Gandhi, “If we are
to reach real peace in this world, we have to begin with the children.”
